During the Crawl, Google takes the snapshot of each page and those pages are stored and used as the back-ups. These pages are called as Google Cached Pages. If the original pages are not available then Google results in Examples like: server is down, Internet congestion, overloaded, or just slow website, the owner’s recently removing the page from the Web.
Searching the information in Google is very easy because of this Cached Pages. It returns a link to a page that appears to have little to do with our query. Google returns the Google cached page but not the original one.
Sometimes Google search results shows that Google Does NOT have “CACHED” links. These may be because of the Google Search Engines does not stored backups for some pages or the owners of the site request Google search engine not to cache their content.
When we click on the “cached” link in web results, we can see the page as it look like pages when the search engine added that page to its database. And at the top of the cached pages some text will indicate us that this is not the recent version of that page. And cached pages result with some highlighted words matching our search where in the original search page we can’t see these highlighted words. By this highlighted words we can know that how this resulted page is related to our search.
The following is the process how Google Cache Pages:
- User sends the URL’s to the web server for indexing.
- During Crawl Google web server stores the pages to its database and it takes the snapshots of each and every page it stores.
- These pages are called as Google Cached Pages and used as back-ups. When the user search for query then Google Search engine looks for their matching URL’s to the query in their database and returns the cached version pages but not the original once.

Page storage or page fragments: we can retrieve the search results very quickly in Google because of these Google Cached Pages. When it comes to storage we just think about speed, size and cost. Smaller cached pages can live long in memory and we can retrieve them quickly because of it size but these longer cached pages takes long time to retrieve from memory and also occupies more space. So, for retrieving the pages quickly we need to calculate speed, size and cost and we must be careful about which pages you cache. Some pages will be accessed much more frequently than others. So, we should cache only the popular pages and forget about the rarely used ones.
Page indexing: The simplest method for a system to locate pages is by comparing user URL’s to the stored URL’s or by there parameters in Google Cached Pages.
Cache refresh: How long the Google search engine keeps pages in the Google Cached Pages is also important. Storing pages in Google Cached Pages for a fixed amount of time is depended on speed, size and cost. Some of the caching strategies are if we are expecting the traffic in future then we try to resubmitting the pages during low-traffic periods. And after getting traffic we can hold pages long enough to avoid refreshing during peak traffic times.
